The estate of Eilean Iarmain covers some 23,000 acres of breathtaking scenery in the beautiful South of Skye. There are magnificent views east across the Sound of Sleat to the hills of Knoydart and Moidart, and west towards the Cuillins over Loch Eishort, with the hills of Rhum and the island of Canna visible to the south-west. The ground ranges from sea level to approx 1000 ft. and consists of hill, moor, lochs, glens and ravines, with plentiful natural woodlands of indigenous hardwoods.

Woodcock
One of the principal attractions is woodcock, offering capital shooting when there is a fall of these thrilling and elusive birds. The estate lets shooting days for 6-8 guns. Arrangements can also be made for smaller parties.

Rough Shooting
Walked up days of rough shooting are available throughout the shooting season. The bag may consist of grouse, woodcock, snipe, pheasant, partridge, duck and rabbit.

Stalking
About 20 red deer stags are shot on the estate each year, with around 35 hinds taken during the winter months. The stunning scenery and long views over hills, sea and lochs can make for a memorable day.

Fishing
The Estate provides fishing for sea trout and wild brown trout. There are two small spate rivers and numerous hill lochs some of which have boats. Ghillies may be available if booked in advance. Sea fishing on the Sound of Sleat can also be arranged.

Accommodation
Shooting guests can stay at Hotel Eilean Iarmain, which is owned by the estate, and is renowned for its wonderful atmosphere. Candlelit dinners in the wood-panelled restaurant, which has 2 rosettes and a first-class wine list and drams by the log fire in the sitting room. The Gaelic Whiskies and traditional music in the cosy wood-lined bar, with an open fire adding to the warmth and character.

Set in a stunning position on the water’s edge, the hotel, built in 1888, overlooks the island and lighthouse of Isle Ornsay, with expansive views to the big hills of the mainland. Accommodation comprises 12 charming double bedrooms and four well-appointed suites. Alternatively there is a nearby self catering cottage and a beautifully restored 18th century farmhouse, each of which provides accommodation for 6 people. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Advance booking is required.
