The ground ranges from sea level to approx 1000 ft. and consists of stunning hills, glens and ravines with plentiful woodlands of natural indigenous hardwoods, softwoods and also heather moorland. Alternatively there are two self-catering holiday cottages which both sleep six and where pets are welcome. Advanced booking is necessary. The Hotel's restaurant has two rosettes for cuisine and a first-class wine list. The open fire in the bar adds warmth and character to the room, providing a wonderful atmosphere in which to listen to the regular live traditional music
A Woodcock Haven One of the principal attractions is woodcock, offering capital shooting when there is a fall of these thrilling and elusive birds. The estate currently lets up to 16 shooting days for a minimum of 6 guns in the lesser copses and woodland corners. The average bag is about 10 woodcock and 60 sightings per day for larger parties. Grouse There are a few days of walked-up shooting available with a bag expectation of 5-10 brace per day Rough Shooting In addition to the woodcock and grouse, some pheasants and partridges are released. Snipe, duck and rabbit may add to the bag. Walked-up days of rough shooting between November to the end of January. Stalking About 20 red deer stags are shot on the estate each year, with around 35 hinds taken during the winter months. The stalk will take you through some of the most wonderful and memorable scenery. Fishing Fishing for sea trout and wild brown trout is available. There are two small spate rivers and numerous lochs, some of which have been stocked and have boats. Sea fishing can also be arranged. Winter Week To entice one to come for a longer stay and experience some variety, visitors may be tempted to take, for example, two days of hind stalking with three days of woodcock, partridge, pheasant and duck flighting, coupled with a few days to visit the rest of the island to round off a fulfilling week in Skye. |
