The River Carron is a renowned Highland salmon river and provides exceptional fishing amongst some of the most glorious countryside. It drains some 156 sq miles with its source derived only 5 miles from the west coast. The river rises principally in Gleann Beag and Gleann Mór absorbing its major tributaries the Alladale River, the Diebidale Water and the Blackwater, before descending 7 miles to the Kyle of Sutherland at Bonar Bridge. The Carron has long been known by the fishing fraternity as one of Scotland’s most productive spate rivers with a spring run that competes with the best rivers in the north.

The Gruinards water extends to approximately four miles of right bank fishing, which includes a variety of pools and runs providing exciting and productive fishing in most conditions. There are twenty seven main pools on the beat including the well known The Upper and Lower Craigs, The Keepers, Pigeon Rock, The Morail, Gardeners, the Boat Pool and the Washer Woman. The lodge occupies a commanding location overlooking the river with anglers able to walk down to the river bank from the garden. There is good vehicular and pedestrian access to the beat throughout.

Gruinards which lies opposite Braelangwell is a five rod beat. The two estates have a longstanding arrangement to ensure there is no one fishing opposite and this ensures considerate and private fishing. The catch in 2007 was 128 fish giving a five year average of 121 fish
