Sporting Lets - CKD Galbraith Scotlands premier spotting letting agency

PARTICULARS AND CONDITIONS OF LET 2012 SEASON

CKD Galbraith, as agents for the Inver & Kirkaig Fishings, shall let the Salmon and Sea trout Fishing on The Rivers Kirkaig and Inver on the following terms and conditions.

River Kirkaig
The River Kirkaig comprises three beats, each of two rods, which are fished on a daily rotation.  Each beat has a variety of excellent holding pools, some of which are rocky and only accessible to the most agile.  The Kirkaig is very much a spate river, and restricted to fly only, with the season running from 11 February to 15 October.
Please note that the Kirkaig Middle & Upper Beats can only be accessed via a footpath.  It is 2 miles to the top of the Upper Beat, approximately a 30 minute walk.  The path is steep and rocky in places, and access to the pools requires a degree of fitness and agility.  The upper beat should not be fished unaccompanied.
All fishing is from the North or right bank.  There is no fishing from the opposite bank.

The maximum number of rods on any beat is two.

River Inver

The River Inver is divided into five beats.
The Upper beat is let on a daily basis for a maximum of 2 rods.
The Middle beat is divided into two x 2 rod daily rotating beats.
The Lower beat is also divided into two x 2 rod rotating beats, but with a changeover at 1pm daily.  If more than one party is fishing the Lower beat then rods will be designated A, B, C or D status.  A & B will start on Top Lower on Monday with changeover at 1pm.  A & B will start on Bottom Lower on Tuesday with changeover at 1pm.  This beat rotation will be repeated for the remainder of the week.  (ie each pair of rods alternate their start beat daily).  All the beats offer a wide variety of fishing, with the Upper beat including a boat.  Fishing is by fly only with the season running from 11 February – 15 October.

Fishing will be by rod and line and artificial fly only on both rivers and there will be no exception to this rule.  Double or single hooks only throughout the season, preferably barbless.  Treble hooks are not to be used at any time.

  • There is now no restriction on fishing times, unless sharing a beat (see below)
  • Beat changeover is at Midnight each day.
  • Rod sharing is not permitted.
  • When sharing a beat, please have consideration for your fellow angler.  The shared beat is divided into two, each half fished from 7am – 1pm, and change at 2pm until 8pm, with the water being rested for one hour in between 1pm and 2pm. If sharing a beat, no fishing before 7am, and out of consideration for the other rod, do not fish other than your allocated water.

There are specific guidance notes for each pool on every beat, and parties should familiarise themselves with these notes before fishing.  These notes can be found on the River notes on our website www.sportinglets.co.uk/kirkaig.htm & www.sportinglets/inver.htm

General Guidance Notes
Guidance Notes for all the major sporting activities are also posted on our sporting website www.sportinglets.co.uk and all those engaging in these sporting activities must have read the relevant Guidance Notes prior to the commencement of their tenancy.  If you do not have access to the internet, please let us know.

Booking
A firm booking will only be accepted on receipt of one signed copy of these terms and conditions and accompanied by a cheque for 50% of the total rental which is to be a non-returnable deposit.   The balance of the rent will be due for payment 12 weeks prior to the commencement of the tenancy.  A second invoice will be sent to you in advance of this.

Acceptance of an offer of fishing renders the taker responsible for payment of the rent in full in the event of subsequent cancellation.  However, should it be possible to re-let the cancelled days, it may be possible to refund the rent to the original taker, less 15% + VAT agency commission.  It is often only possible to re-let the fishing at a reduced rate, in such cases the shortfall will be deducted and any balance returned. The tenant shall not sub-let the days taken or assign his fishing rights without the express approval of the agents, and shall on no account do so at a profit.

The owner and agents will accept no liability whatever for damage, injury or loss to the persons or belongings to the tenant(s) or those in his/her party, from whatever cause arising, nor can they be held responsible for adverse weather conditions or acts of God.

CONSERVATION POLICY

The owners of the Rivers Inver and Kirkaig are keen to implement a catch and release policy on both rivers.  They appreciate that this might not be what some guests are accustomed to and do not wish for any guest to feel the goalposts have been moved unfairly.

All fishing policies are aspirational and the guiding principal should be common sense.  However, the longer term health of fish stocks in both rivers is what we are keen to promote.  The Scottish government guidelines are for 65% of salmon caught and 100% of sea trout caught to be returned.  We also feel there is a strong argument for returning all hen fish caught, since they are the future!

While we would like to achieve those targets, we do understand this is not always possible to return a fish, or that we may be depriving someone of a treasured moment, in which case we entirely understand.  We would wish that anglers do not keep any fish that they do not intend to be consumed by themselves or their families.

We hope you will help us to implement these policies on the rivers without any diminution of your enjoyment of this special part of the world.

Please note that there is a ban on the sale of rod caught salmon and sea trout by the Scottish Executive.  This ban applies across Scotland, irrespective where the fish have been caught.

A record of numbers and weights of all fish caught together with a record of the pools and anglers names must be kept and entered in the weekly return form provided.

THE COMPLETED FORM MUST BE RETURNED TO THIS OFFICE NO LATER THAN TWO WEEKS FOLLOWING A LET.  A NIL RETURN IS ALSO REQUIRED.  FAILURE TO DO SO MAY PREJUDICE FUTURE LETS.

a form certifying that all equipment and tackle has been treated against the parasite Gyrodactylus Salaris, as recommended by the Scottish Office, will be issued.  The gyrodactylus form must be signed by the principal member of the party, and returned prior to any fishing taking place.
